Old Poppy Seed Grinder's
I have been collecting old, vintage, and antique poppy seed grinders for about
16 years. They are usually made in Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Germany. Seeking
out these items is very much fun. I find most in antique stores, but have also
found some in Estate Sales and E-bay. My Grandmother was Czech and I grew up
with her grinding the fresh poppy seed for pastries, Kolaches and breads. Her
memory gave me an idea that this is what I want to collect. Below are some pictures
of some of them. I have about 60...they come in all colors, but basically look the
same. The seed is forced out of a flat disc that rotates around when the handle is
turned. If you have one of these...I would love to hear from you and the history
behind yours.
